Marine regiments are trained to fight onboard ships,
either to repel boarders or to board and take over hostile enemy vessels.
Marines receive special training in 0-Gee and space suit/battle armor
combat, corridor fighting, hand-to-hand combat, space survival, and
some starship repair skills. Marines are typically armed with blaster
pistols, rifles, grenades and vibroweapons of many sorts. A platoon
might have access to light or medium repeating blasters, but these
weapons are generally too indiscriminate, to employ inside a starship.
Marines are also sometimes equipped with space suits, when they're
available and in need of for certain missions. The Alliance Space
Marine Corps is tasked generally with all security matters on Alliance
starships, space stations and other naval outposts.
Infiltrators
These are the eyes and ears of the Alliance Special Forces. Trained
to slip through enemy lines in order to gain Intelligence, conduct
sabotage missions or to cause general unrest on Imperial held worlds.
Infiltrators are masters of stealth, able to foil most mechanical
and human security measures. Chosen from the best of the best in the
Alliance Special forces, they're trained in the arts of survival,
many forms of combat and the knowledge to use just about any weapon,
they may find in the field. They're often teamed with Alliance Intelligence
Agents, to conduct missions on hostile worlds and often tend to be
the tip of the spear of the Alliance Strike force.
Alliance Pathfinders
The purpose of these brave soldiers is to make covert drops onto an
enemy planet, establish a beachhead and hold it, until relieved by
Alliance Reinforcements. This task is an extremely dangerous undertaking,
as it is quite difficult to insert a large number of troops, sometimes
with heavy weapons, onto an enemy planet, without being detected.
Instead the pathfinders travel light, relying upon surprise to overwhelm
enemy resistance. If surprise is achieved, a small number of men can
wreak havoc upon a larger force for some time. However, as the enemy
gets organized and brings his strength to bear, the pathfinders sometimes
find themselves to be in real trouble. To accomplish their missions,
pathfinders are trained in survival, alien species, and repulsorcraft
operation, in addition to standard combat skills. They are usually
equipped with blaster rifles, grenades, heavy weapons, survival gear,
and if possible, repulsorcraft.
Wilderness Fighters
Wilderness SpecForces troopers serve as the Alliances mainline ground
fighting force, trained in outdoor combat and survival. Taught to
use the surrounding terrain to its greatest advantage, to foil overwhelming
numbers. Because wilderness combat usually requires much greater mobility
then certain other areas, wilderness troopers are often trained and
equipped with repulsorcraft - speeder bikes, skiffs, or whatever else
is available and appropriate to the mission. Wilderness troopers receive
general training in all types of terrain. In addition, individual
brigades receive special training for particular terrain types: artic,
aquatic, forest, mountains, and the like. Though most Wilderness units
are tasked with taking the fight to the enemy when possible, many
units are assigned to provide security for Alliance bases in the event
of a surprise attack by Imperial invaders.
